Medical cannabis shop to open this summer in St. Cloud

A medical marijuana distribution facility that has been approved to operate in St. Cloud is on track to open later this summer.

LeafLine Labs is one of two medical marijuana providers chosen by the state to manufacture and distribute marijuana in Minnesota. Some of the state's distribution centers will open July 1, with other locations opening later this year and next year.

LeafLine is planning to open a distribution facility in St. Cloud. It's application for state approval indicated its storefront would be at 125-33rd Ave. S.

"Our operation is, if anything, tracking slightly ahead of our original schedule," said Dr. Andrew Bachman, co-founder and chief medical officer at LeafLine. "Our initial care center location in Eagan and a second facility later this summer was always our intent."

He wouldn't say this week if the St. Cloud location referenced in the company's application is still where LeafLine plans to open or exactly when it would open. An announcement about the location will come closer to the opening date, he said.

For now, Bachman is spending plenty of time answering questions about how his company's medical marijuana operation will work.

The company is growing marijuana at a 42,000 square-foot facility in Cottage Grove, where plants will be harvested and the necessary components extracted to make liquid and pill forms of medical cannabis.

There will be no growing or manufacturing at the St. Cloud facility and there will be no leaves, buds or other plant forms of marijuana there either. It will operate more like a combination of a spa and a narrowly focused pharmacy, Bachman said.

Rather than an experience based solely on a transaction, LeafLine hopes to create an interaction between patient and provider that informs care, he said.

Patients statewide this week could begin getting their medical conditions certified to receive medical marijuana. That certification comes from the patient's healthcare practitioner.

Story continues below.

LeafLine Labs, in an application it filed last year to become a state-approved medical marijuana distributor, identified this building at 125-33rd Ave. S as the location of its St. Cloud distribution facility. The company this week wouldn't confirm that its facility will be at this location, saying it will reveal the location when it's ready to open later this summer. (Photo: Jason Wachter, jwachter@stcloudtimes.com)

In CentraCare Health, the decision whether to certify patients is up to the individual physician, said Jeanine Nistler, director of communications.

A survey released this week by the Minnesota Medical Association showed that the vast majority of physicians who responded to the survey don't plan to participate in the state's medical cannabis registry.

The survey was sent Tuesday to more than 14,000 physicians, and 493 had responded by Thursday. Of the respondents, 9 percent said they plan to participate, 68 percent do not, 16 percent haven't decided and 7 percent said that they don't have patients who would have a qualifying condition, according to the MMA.

The state approved medical marijuana for people suffering from the following conditions: cancer associated with severe/chronic pain, nausea or severe vomiting, or cachexia or severe wasting; glaucoma; HIV/AIDS; Tourette syndrome; amyotrophic lateral sclerosis; seizures; severe and persistent muscle spasms; Crohn's disease; and terminal illness where the patient has a life expectancy of less than one year.

That means that many of the patients using the distribution center will be "quite ill, will have failed with other therapies" and might be near the end of their life, Bachman said.

"We want this to be safe, comfortable and spa-like to give patients comfort and a therapeutic experience," he said.

City officials didn't take a position on LeafLine's application to open in St. Cloud. Mayor Dave Kleis has previously said that there were no zoning concerns with opening the facility in the city.

The nature of the business and what they are selling raises some security concerns with St. Cloud Police Chief Blair Anderson. He would like to know where the store is going and what the company is doing to make the store as secure as possible.

"Just because they're only going to have the extracted liquid form and pills doesn't mean that there won't be members of the public that either won't believe that or believe that it is just as valuable," Anderson said. "What form it's in won't really matter that much to me in terms of needing to have the same level of security that I think is necessary for a business such as that."

He mentioned a recent house fire that killed an elderly woman in St. Cloud and was allegedly started when two men were making butane hash oil from marijuana as a reason to be concerned about marijuana in any form.

Bachman said security at the manufacturing facility in Cottage Grove and the distribution facilities they open will be more than what's called for in state statutes. The Legislature is requiring closed-circuit television surveillance 24 hours a day, seven days a week with cameras that are able to "capture clear and certain identification of any person entering or exiting" a manufacturing or distribution facility.

The company must retain the video for at least 90 days, according to state statute. They also must have an alarm system that covers the entire facility and works during a power outage.

"We have incredible state-of-the-art monitoring and security that would make a Las Vegas casino proud," Bachman said.

He anticipates involving services such as massage, yoga, acupuncture and other health and wellness treatments. He wants to create a care experience for patients that eliminates long wait times and crowded lines, he said.

"We want this to be peaceful, compassionate and dignified," Bachman said.

Carrot Juice Smoothie for Cancer

Last Updated: Jan 28, 2015 | By Anne TourneyCarrot Juice Smoothie for CancerCarrot smoothies provide vitamin A that boosts your immunity during cancer treatment. Photo Credit carrote juice image by Maria Brzostowska from Fotolia.com

A carrot juice smoothie offers a concentrated, easy-to-digest source of beta-carotene, an antioxidant compound that your body converts to vitamin A. According to the Linus Pauling Institute, a diet rich in carrots and other foods that contain beta-carotene may reduce your risk of developing cancer. The immunity-boosting properties of vitamin A may protect you against secondary infections while you're going through cancer treatment.

Carrot juice has a mild, sweet flavor and blends well with other fruits and vegetables, such as apples, oranges, pineapple or beets. To make a carrot juice smoothie based on the guidelines of the American Cancer Society, or ACS, for high-calorie drinks, add 8 oz. of canned or fresh carrot juice to one scoop of vanilla ice cream or yogurt. For extra protein, include 1 to 2 tbsp. of powdered milk. Blend ingredients in a covered blender and serve chilled. To add thickness and texture, include slices of frozen fruit, such as bananas, peaches, strawberries, mango or papaya. Cancer treatment or the metabolic effects of the disease may give you an aversion to fats or dairy products, MedlinePlus notes. If you can't digest milk, substitute soy yogurt or ice cream. If you can tolerate fats and you're trying to gain weight, add regular yogurt instead of nonfat yogurt for extra calories.

The side effects of radiation or chemotherapy may limit your food choices. If you have pain with chewing or swallowing solid foods, vegetable smoothies can provide vitamins, minerals and antioxidant compounds, the National Cancer Institute notes. A chilled smoothie can soothe a sore throat and may be more digestible than solids when you're having nausea. If a loss of appetite or digestive complications restrict you to small meals or snacks, eat foods that are rich in protein, vitamins, minerals and antioxidant nutrients like beta-carotene. Cancer can alter your metabolism, making you lose weight and muscle mass. If you're trying to gain weight and maintain lean muscle tissue, increase the calories and protein in a carrot juice smoothie by adding one scoop of protein powder, one tbsp. of wheat germ, one cup of regular yogurt or one scoop of powdered egg whites.

Beta-carotene is a plant-based pigment found in orange, red, and yellow vegetables and fruits. When you eat foods that contain beta-carotene, this pigment converts into vitamin A. The ACS states that although vitamin A may alter the effects of cancer cells, clinical research on the effectiveness of vitamin A for cancer treatment has been inconclusive. However, vitamin A does offer protection against secondary infections, which may compromise the outcomes of your cancer treatment and interfere with your recovery. Radiation or chemotherapy may weaken your immune system by damaging the the membranous linings of your mouth and nose, allowing germs to invade your digestive, respiratory or urinary tracts. Vitamin A helps prevent infections by maintaining the integrity of the cells that make up these linings, the ACS notes. A half of a chopped, raw carrot contains the equivalent of 1,793 IU of vitamin A, according to the Linus Pauling Institute.

ACS advises that you should get the recommended dietary allowance for vitamin A – about 2,310 IU or 0.7 mg for women and 3,000 IU for men – from dietary sources such as carrots rather than from supplements. Although beta-carotene may inhibit the effects of cancer when you consume it in food, beta-carotene may not provide the same benefit when taken in supplement form and may actually increase your cancer risk when you take it in high doses, the Linus Pauling Institute notes.

Meet Rick Simpson...his cannabis oil cures cancer, allegedly

Soapbox Momma Meet Rick Simpson...his cannabis oil cures cancer, allegedly By Leslie Kahn, May 15, 2015 at 1:15 pm Meet Rick Simpson...his cannabis oil cures cancer, allegedly Such a beautiful plant

I have long been an advocate of that magical weed known as marijuana for both recreational and medical purposes. While I have been aware of its many health benefits such as:

1. treats glaucoma

2. improves lung health

3. helps control epileptic seizures

4. decreases anxiety

5. slows the progression of Alzheimer's Disease

6. eases muscle spasms, especially in those with MS

7. improves symptoms in inflammatory bowel syndrome, Crohn's disease and Lupus

8. reduces pain and nausea from chemo, stimulating appetite...and much, much more..

I was unaware of the fact that thousands of people have claimed to experience a remission in their cancers using cannabis oil made by a Canadian man named Rick Simpson. You can read his amazing story, Rick Simpson's Hemp-Oil Medicine .

There is a lot of misinformation about medical marijuana floating around out there in internetland. Let me try and help with this. Marijuana is quite an incredible plant. The chemical compounds found in it, called cannabinoids of which there are over 80 different types, are responsible for the health benefits. Most of us are familiar with THC which makes you high and takes you to your "happy place." Not all forms of marijuana make you high. Cannabinol, known as CBN, induces sedative-like effects, is an anti-bacterial and may reduce muscle spasms. Cannabidiol cannabinoid, known as CBD, is responsible for most of the health benefits.

There are several different ways to consume medical marijuana; you can smoke it, eat it, inhale it from a vaporizer, make tea and soda with it, use it topically from the oil and finally use it as a tincture. For more info, read Ways to Consume Medical Marijuana

Here's a chart to help.

Courtesy coloradopotguide.com

Courtesy coloradopotguide.com

I really encourage you to read Rick Simpson's entire story which is quite lengthy. Here's the Cliff's Notes version.

It all starts in 1972, when Rick's cousin dies of cancer. In 1974, he hears of a study at University of Virginia in which THC reduces brain tumors in mice. Its intended outcome was to prove that it damaged the immune system. Instead of going forward with this research, the DEA shuts it down and then President Ford puts the kibosh on public cannabis research. Go figure...

Fast forward to 1997. Rick has a work accident where he ends up inhaling too much aerosol, passes out, falls off a ladder and hits his head really hard. He ends up in the hospital trauma center where he recovers. Shortly thereafter, he ends up back in the ER with escalating blood pressure and tinnitus which is so loud that it is debilitating. He is given lots of different prescription meds, none of which helps. At the end of his rope, he asks his doctor for a prescription for medical marijuana. The doctor refuses, but Rick gets hold of some marijuana, tries it and experiences a huge decrease in his symptoms. He decides to make it into an essential oil and ingest it rather than smoke it.

The improvement was remarkable; his pain is controlled, his blood pressure decreases and he is able to sleep well for the first time in months. Then he tried the oil, topically, on some suspicious moles. Four days later, they were gone. He cured his mother's weeping psoriasis, topically; something she had suffered with for years. He shared his success with his doctor who still wasn't interested. He had successfully treated about 60 people with the oil topically, but no one else had ingested it besides him.

He had never charged money for his cannabis oil and his status as a healer was legendary at this point. A man with melanoma on his cheekbone was cured by a topical application. He convinced this man that ingesting it would most likely help him with his glaucoma. The man did just that and his vision improved as well as his arthritic condition.

Soon after, he started giving it internally to cancer patients, even those with Stage 4 terminal cancer. They miraculously recovered. It cured diabetes, cervical cancer and lung cancer. He figures he has a 70% success rate. He's noticed that the ones that died either had too much chemotherapy and radiation or waited too long to start the treatment.

Sadly, Rick Simpson was arrested for marijuana possession and found guilty, although he had a sympathetic judge who gave him no jail time and a fine. He can't come to the US due to his conviction. He has treated over a thousand people in Canada and continues to do so. There are others like him having the same results.

Amazingly, there was a study done at the University of Madrid in 2009, investigating the use of cannabinoids in treating cancer, using actual cancer patients. Their findings proved that THC eliminated cancer cells without killing the surrounding healthy ones. This study has never received any worldwide coverage.

What do you think of this story? Do you believe he's a healer or a charlatan? Would you try cannabis oil if you had cancer? I would love to hear your comments.

Abbott Legalizes Cannabis Oil for Epilepsy Patients

Gov. Greg Abbott, l, shakes hands with student Zachariah Moccia, 25, of San Antonio after signing SB 339, allowing limited medical use of marijuana-derived oils that help control seizures in epileptic patients on June 1, 2015.

Gov. Greg Abbott, l, shakes hands with student Zachariah Moccia, 25, of San Antonio after signing SB 339, allowing limited medical use of marijuana-derived oils that help control seizures in epileptic patients on June 1, 2015.

Offering what he said would be "healing and hope for children who are afflicted by relentless seizures caused by epilepsy," Gov. Greg Abbott signed legislation Monday legalizing low-THC cannabis oils as treatment for certain medical conditions.

The Texas Compassionate Use Act from state Sen. Kevin Eltife, R-Tyler, will legalize oils containing CBD, a non-euphoric component of marijuana known to treat epilepsy and other chronic medical conditions. The state will regulate and distribute the oils to patients whose symptoms have not responded to federally approved medication.

Senate Bill 339 requires the Texas Department of Public Safety to license at least three dispensing organizations by Sept. 1, 2017, provided that at least that many applicants have met the state's requirements. According to the bill's author, dispensaries will function similar to compounding pharmacies. Only a neurologist or epileptologist will be able to prescribe CBD oil. The law will go into effect on Sept. 1, 2015.

Surrounded by families whose loved ones have suffered from intractable epilepsy, Abbott insisted that the new law was narrowly tailored for a specific purpose.

"I remain convinced that Texas should not legalize marijuana, nor should Texas open the door for conventional marijuana to be used for medicinal purposes," Abbott said before the signing. "As governor, I will not allow it; SB 339 does not open the door to marijuana in Texas."

But not all medical marijuana advocates are celebrating. Many believe the new law does not go far enough, offering limited options to Texans with epilepsy — the proposal requires a CBD-THC ratio of no more than 20:1 — and nothing for those with other diseases that can be treated with medical marijuana, such as cancer.

"While this program leaves most patients behind and we're concerned about its functionality, today is one for the history books," Heather Fazio, Texas political director for the Marijuana Policy Project, said in a statement Monday. "The Texas Legislature is sending a resounding message: Marijuana is medicine."

Texas is currently one of 13 states where marijuana is illegal for medical and recreational use. In recent years, 14 states have legalized CBD oil for certain medical conditions while 23 other states and the District of Columbia have laws allowing broader medical marijuana use.

Prostate Cancer Cure Lies In Early Detection

Is There A Prostate Cancer Cure?
    By Donald Saunders
    Submitted On November 12, 2006

    Cure Lies In Early Detection

After skin cancer, prostate cancer is the most common form of cancer seen in men today with more than 230,000 cases been diagnosed annually in the United States alone. It is also a major cause of death amongst men in the United States and claims more than 30,000 lives every year.

Although prostate cancer is more likely to be seen in African American men, men with a family history of the disease and men over the age of 60, it does not otherwise discriminate in choosing its victims and claims the lives of poor and rich alike including some well know figures like Don Ameche, Bill Bixby, Telly Savalas and Frank Zappa.

While any death is clearly regrettable, the deaths of such well known personalities from prostate cancer has done much to raise the visibility of the disease and this, combined with other figures such as retired General Norman Schwarzkopf, Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens and comedian Jerry Lewis who have all publicly fought prostate cancer, has led to greater public awareness and earlier medical intervention. And the results are clear to see.

While some 230,000 people will be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year, the figure 10 years ago was 330,000. Similarly, while in the region of 30,000 will die from prostate cancer this year, the figure again 10 years ago was nearly 42,000.

There are two major problems with prostate cancer. The first is a reluctance on the part of many men to talk about anything to do with their sex organs or to visit their doctor until the symptoms are so bad that they simply don't have any choice. The second is the fact that it is quite common for men to suffer from an enlarged prostate and therefore to experience problems with urinating as they enter their 60s. Because an enlarged prostate is a benign condition and enlargement of the prostate generally progresses slowly, they simply put up with the problem as simply another sign of growing old. The problem here is that, while an enlarged prostate does not cause cancer, the symptoms produced by an enlarged prostate can mask the symptoms of a developing prostate cancer.

As with many forms of cancer, the secret to finding a prostate cancer cure lies in the early detection of the condition. If the disease is detected at an early stage when it is still confined to the prostate gland then it can be treated without too much difficulty. Once it starts to spread however into the surrounding tissue, and particularly into bone tissue and the lymphatic system, treatment is far more difficult and less effective.

There are now a variety of tests available to detect the presence of prostate cancer and a prostate cancer cure is certainly within the reach of most men as long as they act quickly as soon as the first signs of trouble appear and consult their doctor.

Anti-Cancer Medicinal Extract From The Pine Tree

Pine needles (Pinus densiflora Siebold et Zuccarini) have long been used as a traditional health-promoting medicinal food in Korea. To investigate their potential anticancer effects, antioxidant, antimutagenic, and antitumor activities were assessed in vitro and/or in vivo. Pine needle ethanol extract (PNE) significantly inhibited Fe(2+)-induced lipid peroxidation and scavenged 1,1-diphenyl- 2-picrylhydrazyl radical in vitro. PNE markedly inhibited mutagenicity of 2-anthramine, 2-nitrofluorene, or sodium azide in Salmonella typhimurium TA98 or TA100 in Ames tests. PNE exposure effectively inhibited the growth of cancer cells (MCF-7, SNU-638, and HL-60) compared with normal cell (HDF) in 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay. In in vivo antitumor studies, freeze-dried pine needle powder supplemented (5%, wt/wt) diet was fed to mice inoculated with Sarcoma-180 cells or rats treated with mammary carcinogen, 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene (DMBA, 50 mg/kg body weight). Tumorigenesis was suppressed by pine needle supplementation in the two model systems. Moreover, blood urea nitrogen and aspartate aminotransferase levels were significantly lower in pine needle-supplemented rats in the DMBA-induced mammary tumor model. These results demonstrate that pine needles exhibit strong antioxidant, antimutagenic, and antiproliferative effects on cancer cells and also antitumor effects in vivo and point to their potential usefulness in cancer prevention.

    PINE BARK EXTRACT

A review of the French maritime pine bark extract (Pycnogenol), a herbal medication with a diverse clinical pharmacology.

    Abstract
An increasing body of evidence indicates that Pycnogenol (PYC), a standardized extract of French maritime pine bark, has favorable pharmacological properties. This is a review of studies with both PYC and components of the preparation, that have helped to elucidate target sites and possible mechanisms for activity in men.

Studies appearing in peer reviewed literature, as well as results presented at international meetings not yet available as published papers, are included in this review. Additional data from published sources in German and French languages that are not widely available are also included.

Chemical identification studies showed that PYC is primarily composed of procyanidins and phenolic acids. Procyanidins are biopolymers of catechin and epicatechin subunits which are recognized as important constituents in human nutrition. PYC contains a wide variety of procyanidins that range from the monomeric catechin and taxifolin to oligomers with 7 or more flavonoid subunits. The phenolic acids are derivatives of benzoic and cinnamic acids. The ferulic acid and taxifolin components are rapidly absorbed and excreted as glucuronides or sulphates in men, whereas procyanidins are absorbed slowly and metabolized to valerolactones which are excreted as glucuronides. PYC has low acute and chronic toxicity with mild unwanted effects occurring in a small percentage of patients following oral administration. Clinical studies indicate that PYC is effective in the treatment of chronic venous insufficiency and retinal micro-hemorrhages. PYC protects against oxidative stress in several cell systems by doubling the intracellular synthesis of anti-oxidative enzymes and by acting as a potent scavenger of free radicals. Other anti-oxidant effects involve a role in the regeneration and protection of vitamin C and E. Anti-inflammatory activity has been demonstrated in vitro and in vivo in animals. Protection against UV-radiation-induced erythema was found in a clinical study following oral intake of PYC. In asthma patients symptom scores and circulating leukotrienes are reduced and lung function is improved. Immunomodulation has been observed in both animal models as well as in patients with Lupus erythematosus. PYC antagonizes the vasoconstriction caused by epinephrine and norepinephrine by increasing the activity of endothelial nitric oxide synthase. Dilation of the small blood vessels has been observed in patients with cardiovascular disease, whereas in smokers, PYC prevents smoking-induced platelet aggregation and reduces the concentration of thromboxane. The ability to inhibit angiotensin-converting enzyme is associated with a mild antihypertensive effect. PYC relieves premenstrual symptoms, including abdominal pain and this action may be associated with the spasmolytic action of some phenolic acids. An improvement in cognitive function has been observed in controlled animal experiments and these findings support anecdotal reports of improvement in ADHD patients taking PYC supplements.

    CONCLUSIONS:
There is much evidence showing that PYC has beneficial effects on physiological functions. Results from ongoing clinical research are required to confirm and extend previous observations.

Treatment Options For People With Lung Cancer

Several lung cancer treatments are currently available and the determination as to which one is prescribed depends on the lung cancer stage that has been diagnosed, the location of the cancer, and the patient’s health. The most common treatments for lung cancer include Surgery, Radiation, Chemotherapy, and Targeted Therapy.

    Surgery

Surgery involves cutting away a cancerous tumor and a portion of the tissue that has surrounded the tumor. Sometimes the surgical treatment involves removal of the entire affected lung. Surgery is often effective, but recovery time can be long. Because the surgeon will have to cut through the rib cage to get to the lungs, there will be pain and bed rest for one to two months after the procedure.

In addition to traditional surgical methods, other types of surgical procedures can be used depending on the location of the tumor and also the patient’s physical condition. A craniotomy, which is basically surgery performed through a hole made to the skull can be prescribed to tumors located in the brain. For small tumors, a procedure whereby a video camera is inserted into a tiny incision helps the surgeon zero in on a tumor. Because the incision is small, pain is generally reduced.

    Radiation

Radiation can either be used by itself or in conjunction with a surgical procedure. Radiation can be beamed directly at the cancerous tumor from the outside of the body using a laser, or radiation can be delivered directly to the tumor via a small pellet. When a patient’s overall state of health is poor, radiation is a better alternative than undergoing a surgical procedure. In cases where surgery has been performed, radiation might also be prescribed as a way to remove the cancerous cells that for whatever reason could not be surgically removed. Radiation to remove brain tumors can result in changing the brain’s functionality later on, but may be the only option.

    Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy is actually a drug that works to remove cancer by way of the bloodstream. Chemotherapy drugs can be taken either orally or administered via an injection into a vein. Because the bloodstream can carry the drug throughout the body, Chemotherapy is often the preferred treatment when lung cancer has spread well beyond the lungs. One problem associated with chemotherapy is that it can also cause damage to healthy cells and the cells that produce blood that reside within the bone marrow. Low blood counts can lead to a number of different problems so Chemotherapy treatment must be closely monitored.

    Targeted Therapy

Targeted Therapy is a relatively new treatment option that does show promise. Instead of focusing on destroying damaged cells (which can also damage healthy cells), these drugs instead are designed to interfere with a cancerous cell’s ability to grow. Right now, Targeted Therapy drugs are given to patients only after other treatment options have been attempted. And unfortunately, Targeted Therapy has not been effective for all patients.

Each lung cancer treatment option has benefits, risks and frequently, side effects. Deciding which option is best is something that only a doctor and patient can determine.

Risks 0f Colon Cancer In Men And Woman.

Cancer occurs when something goes wrong with this system, causing uncontrolled cell division and growth. Colon cancer is cancer of the large intestine (colon), the lower part of your digestive system. Most cases of colon cancer begin as small, noncancerous (benign) clumps of cells called adenomatous polyps. Rectal cancer is cancer of the last 6 inches of the colon. Together, they’re often referred to as colorectal cancers.

Colorectal cancer is the second most common cancer killer overall and third most common cause of cancer-related death in the United States in both males and females. Who is at risk for colorectal cancer. Men tend to get colorectal cancer at an earlier age than women, but women live longer so they catch up with men and thus the total number of cases in men and women is equal. Women diagnosed with uterine or ovarian cancer before age 50 are at increased risk of colorectal cancer. Woman with a personal history of breast cancer have only a very slight increase in risk of colorectal cancer. The average age to develop colorectal cancer is 70 years, and 93% of cases occur in persons 50 years of age or older. You have a higher risk for colon cancer if you have:

    • Cancer elsewhere in the body.

    • Colorectal polyps

    • Crohn’s disease

    • Family history of colon cancer

    • Personal history of breast cancer

    • Ulcerative colitis.

What are the symptoms of colorectal cancer. Symptoms of colorectal cancer vary depending on the location of the cancer within the colon or rectum, though there may be no symptoms at all. The most common presenting symptom of colorectal cancer is rectal bleeding. Cancers arising from the left side of the colon generally cause bleeding, or in their late stages may cause constipation, abdominal pain, and obstructive symptoms. On the other hand, right-sided colon lesions may produce vague abdominal aching, but are unlikely to present with obstruction or altered bowel habit. Other symptoms such as weakness, weight loss, or anemia resulting from chronic blood loss may accompany cancer of the right side of the colon.

If your doctor learns that you do have colorectal cancer, more tests will be done to see if the cancer has spread. Colonoscopy is currently the only test recommended for colorectal cancer screening in average-risk persons at 10 year intervals. Colonoscopic surveillance (also called screening colonoscopy) needs to be available at more frequent intervals for individuals at high risk for colon cancer (for instance, those with a personal history of colorectal cancer or adenomatous polyps; family history of colorectal cancer; non-hereditary polyposis; colorectal cancer; or a pre-disposing condition such as inflammatory bowel disease.

The first step to avoiding this ailment is prevention with regular tests at the doctor, but there are other ways of getting around this disease in between checkups. Nevertheless, it appears that increasing the fiber content in the Western diet would be useful in the primary prevention of colorectal cancer. It is recommended that physical activity messages promoting at least 30-45 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity on most days of the week be included in primary prevention interventions for cancer. The population prevalence for meeting proposed physical activity criteria for colon cancer prevention is low and much lower than that related to the more generic public health recommendations.

Our bodies need lots of calcium and not only for building strong bones. Colon cancer prevention is one of the most exciting uses for calcium. However, instead of using calcium supplements, this study relied on low-fat dairy products to supply 1,200mg calcium per day. Investigators found this amount of calcium decreased the incidence of changes in the cells lining the colon, which is often seen in the initial stages of colon cancer. A significant protective factor is adequate dietary calcium intake during the period of maximum growth (ages 9 and 25 y), so that proper peak bone mass is achieved by age 20and 30 y and maintained until mid-life, with only slow bone loss in the following years. As already noted, dietary surveys indicate a significant gap between the recommended calcium intake and the actual intake in the United States in the critical years of adolescence and young adulthood and later in life. In addition, several large-scale, recent studies in humans indicate a role for increased dietary calcium in reducing colon cancer risk, as briefly discussed below.

Both men and women are equally at risk for colorectal cancer. Men over the age of 50 and women over 55 should have this test on an annual basis to detect colon cancer early. Yet colorectal cancer is the third most common malignancy in women after breast and lung cancer. Incidence is slightly higher in men than women, and is highest in African American men. It is believe that the time has come for a full scientific review of cereal-grain enrichment with calcium and vitamin D as a low-cost, safe, and useful route for the reduction of osteoporosis and colon cancer in the United States in both men and women.

4 Easy Ways To Relief Headache

Having headache is annoying and sometimes it is difficult for us to avoid. Mostly when we are under pressure, headache appeared automatically. If it gets worse, we might faint due to the pain we felt.

A headache is a condition of mild to severe pain in the head. It can also attack at our upper back or neck. There are different types of headache, but most of the time headache brought on by stress, too long in front of computer, noise and others.

One of the main causes of headache is tension in the muscles of the neck, scalp and jaw. We usually deal with it by taking some sleep or consume over-the counter aspirin to release our pain. However, can we do this at any place?

Obviously, we cannot sleep at the office or at the mall. In addition, we might run of aspirin when headache strike us.

Do not worry! The easiest way to handle headache and we can do it everywhere is through massage. Massage is the practice of applying pressure or vibration to the soft tissues of the body, to heal injury, relieve psychological stress, manage pain, improve circulation and relieve tension.

When we suffer from headache, we can help ourselves with self-massage. Simple and everybody can do it, either at work or home.

Here are four easy ways in massage to heal our headache.

    1. Eyes Area Massage — Close your eyes. Place your middle fingers to your eyes that are above cheekbones. Massage that area gently but firmly in circular motion for 1 minute,

    2. Eyes to Nose Massage Using thumb, go along the underside of eyebrows (along the bone on top of eye socket). Feel where this bone meets the bridge of your nose and eyes and find a point where there is a small indentation. Very gentle pressure, press your thumbs into the points. You can do it four times by holding and press that area for 10 seconds in each press.

    3. Neck Massage — Massage a point where you can feel it by moving the middle fingers of your hands to the back of your head and feel the base of your skull. Specially, at the tops of your neck that meets the base of your skull. Massage for a minutes using finger tips gentle in circular movement.

    4. Scalp Massage Let your palms of your hands massage your scalp on the top of your skull for a minute gently.

Once you have done all those massages, start taking a deep breath. Lift your shoulders towards your ears for five to 10 seconds to relief remaining pain, and then let them drop back down into their natural position.

You are going to feel better when you can do that for a couple of times. Your massage will relief your headache and your head will feel less weighty.

Cancer Survivors Move Beyond This Cure

Doctors have some good news, for a change, about melanoma. Today, 79 percent of U. S. children diagnosed with melanoma survive it. The bad announcement, however, is that nearly two-thirds will experience physical or psychological problems or learning disabilities on account of their diagnosis or treatment.

These “late effects” can happen months, even years after cancer has been treated. If survivors don’t be aware of late effects, some might not associate the problems using the cancer diagnoses and a minor health condition could become a life-threatening issue.

Whatever their child’s health, parents usually takes a proactive approach. Here are usually suggestions:

    • You are your child’s ideal advocate. Learn all you could can about the diagnosis, treatment protocol and potential issues.

    • Maintain a detailed health care journal. From diagnosis on, hold a pen and notepad with you at all times and write everything down. Not just will this assist you in your child’s treatment, it will give you an accessible record for the future.

    • Be open and straightforward with yourself, your family and especially your kid. Knowledge about late effects is important to help your child lead the full, healthy and productive life.

    • Maintain a wholesome lifestyle for your family. A great diet during treatment can help minimize unwanted side effects. Follow a low-fat, plant-based diet and encourage daily physical activity to increase energy, improve moods, boost self-esteem and stimulate the defense mechanisms.

    • After treatment, gather necessary information on your child’s continued care.

    • Realize that as a result of the cancer or its therapy, your child may have problems in school. Meet with administrators and teachers to debate your child’s needs and health problems. Talk to the teachers about educational late effects watching for learning problems. If essential, have your child take a new neuropsychological evaluation.

    • Be aware that transitioning to “normal life” as treatment ends might cause fear, anxiety and stress.

“It is crucial that childhood cancer survivors receive accurate and current specifics of late effects, ” said Stacia Wagner, a new National Children’s Cancer Society (N. D. C. S.) survivorship specialist as well as cancer survivor.

    Lemon Seeds Breast Cancer Remedy

FRUIT TREES THAT HAVE BEEN SHOWN TO KILL CANCER CELLS OF THE BREAST

Recent studies show that women who want to reduce the risk of breast cancer should consume at least 75 grams of citrus fruit or its juice a day as part of a balanced, healthy lifestyle. Most benefits offered oranges and grapefruit.

A new study of the University of Western Ontario, London, for the first time shown that limonoids, natural compounds present in lemons and oranges and other citrus fruits, interfere with ER + and ER- breast cancer . This sheds new light on the importance of citrus in the prevention of breast cancer and supports previous research that has shown that the consumption of fruit may reduce the risk of breast cancer.

As part of the study 14 kilograms of dry seeds of lemon is degreased and pulverized. Nine different limonoids is extracted from the seed. Seven showed significant cytotoxicity against ER + breast cancer cells, while four showed cytotoxicity against ER-cells (reduced growth / vitality by 44 percent). We examined the ability and limonoids in causing the death of cancer cells. It has been shown that the most potent lemon glucoside.

They also tested the ability of limonoids to inhibit aromatase, which is the key to limiting the estrogen hormone ER + cancer cells can be used for growth. Limonoids have been shown to be as natural aromatase inhibitors, and again, lemon glucoside been at the forefront as the most powerful among them. Thus, limonoids are natural poison for ER + and ER- breast cancer cells, and simultaneously denying estrogen ER + cells, which is required for the growth hormone.

Preventing breast cancer is not the only reason for eating citrus limonoids. In laboratory experiments, such as those conducted by the University of Texas A & M limonoids showed cytotoxicity to cancer, colon cancer, and other diseases. This raises an important question: How much citrus we have to consume for a meaningful protection against cancer?

Citrus fruit in cancer prevention - How much is needed?

A recent study of couples from Europe showed that eating four or more servings of 150 g of citrus per week reduces the risk of throat cancer by 58 percent, oral / pharyngeal cancer by 53 percent and stomach cancer by 31 percent, and colorectal cancer 18 percent, announced Istituto di Ricerche with Farmacologiche Mario Negri in Milan.

A recent US study found that women who consume about 75 grams of grapefruit (or fruit juice) per day have a 22 percent reduction in the risk of breast cancer (in case you have never used hormone replacement therapy). It is important to note that the consumption of citrus fruits, which brought protection nearly identical in both studies (525-600 grams per week), and can be interpreted as the minimum level for meaningful protection from cancer.

Sources citrus limonoids - from oranges are the best

While limonoids from recent studies extracted from the seeds of lemon, they can be found in the bark, pulp, and juice of citrus fruits. Citrus juices contain about 90 to 300 mg per liter of limonoids, glucoside (orange juice: 300 mg / l, grapefruit juice: 200 mg / l, lemon or lime juice: 90 mg / l).

Fruit rind contains up to 500 mg / kg of limonoid and citrus fruit stones may contain up to two percent by weight, provided that the grapefruit seed richest them.

The studies show that women who want to reduce the risk of breast cancer should consume at least 75 grams of citrus fruit or juice a day as part of a balanced, healthy lifestyle. Most benefits offered oranges and grapefruit.

    Liver Cancer Treatments

Liver tumors can be noncancerous (benign) or cancerous (malignant). Cancer tumors may appear in the liver, or can spread to your liver (metastasize) from other body parts. Cancer that occurs in the liver is called primary liver cancer; cancer arising elsewhere chemistry is called metastatic cancer. Almost all liver cancer are metastatic growths.

Non-cancerous liver tumors are fairly common, but usually does definitely not cause symptoms. Most are detected when people produce some other reason an image-search, for example ultrasound, computed tomogranja (CT) or maybe magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Nonetheless, some of these tumors cause an increase in the liver or bleeding in the abdominal cavity. The liver typically functions normally, so blood tests show typical or only slightly elevated degrees of liver enzymes.

    Hepatocellular

Hepatocellular adenoma is usually a common noncancerous tumor of your liver.

Hepatocellular adenomas occur primarily in women of childbearing grow older, probably because oral contraceptives increase the risk of this kind of neoplasms. These tumors usually trigger no symptoms, so most advisors remain undiscovered.

Rarely an adenoma suddenly ruptures and bleeds in the abdominal cavity and require emergency medical procedure. Adenomas caused by oral contraceptives often disappear when the woman stops taking the medicine. In extremely rare cases, an adenoma may become cancerous tumor.

    Hemangioma

Hemangiomas is a noncancerous liver tumor made up of clusters of abnormal blood shipwrecks.

It is estimated that 1% - 5% of adults have small liver hemangiomas that cause not any symptoms. These tumors often reveal if it happens that a person encounter a search of ultrasound or maybe CT scan. Do not demand treatment. In young children occasionally large hemangiomas that cause signs and symptoms are detected, such as a new widespread (diffuse) Coagulation and center failure. May require surgery.

    Hepatoma

Hepatoma (hepatocellular carcinoma) is usually a cancer that begins in the cells of the liver.

Hepatoma are the most common type of cancer that originates within the liver (primary liver cancer). In some areas of Cameras and Southeast Asia hepatomas are all the more common than metastatic liver cancer and to point out the cause of death. In these areas there is a high prevalence of chronic hepatitis B infection, which increases the risk of hepatomas greater than 100 times.

Chronic Hepatitis C infection also enhances the risk of hepatoma. Finally several substances that cause cancer (carcinogens) create hepatomas. In subtropical regions where hepatomas are typical, food is often contaminated by means of carcinogens termed aflatoxins, substances created by certain types of fungi.

In The usa, Europe and other regions of the world where hepatomas are a smaller amount common, most people with hepatoma usually are alcoholics with long-term liver cirrhosis. Additional forms of cirrhosis are also associated together with hepatoma, although in conjunction together with primary biliary cirrhosis, the risk is below with other types of cirrhosis.

Fibrolamellar cancer is usually a rare type of hepatoma that usually affects young adults. It is not caused by the preceding cirrhosis, contamination with hepatitis B or D or other known risk components.

    Symptoms

Usually the first symptoms of any hepatoma abdominal pain, weight loss, and large clusters that can be felt in the upper mid-section. Another possibility is that someone who has had cirrhosis for years may unexpectedly become sicker. Perhaps the most common fever. Sometimes the first symptoms involving acute abdominal pain and shock caused by rupture or bleeding tumors.

    Examination

In people with hepatoma typically have elevated levels of alpha-fetoprotein within blood. Sometimes blood tests show low degrees of glucose or high levels involving calcium, lipids and increased the quantity of red blood cells.

At very first, the symptoms do not provide key to the diagnosis. Nonetheless, once the liver is increased enough that it is usually felt, the doctor may think the diagnosis, especially if the individual has long-term cirrhosis. Sometimes a doctor may hear loud sounds (hepatic noise) and sound reefs (friction due to rubbing or crepitus) stethoscope placed over the liver.

Ultrasound and CT above the abdomen can detect cancer that has definitely not yet caused symptoms. In some countries where the common hepatitis B virus, for example Japan, ultrasound is used when it comes to screening examinations (screening, screening) of men and women with the infection to hard working liver cancer. Angiography of the liver (Rg made following the hepatic artery injected radiokonstrastne substances) may possibly indicate hepatoma. Liver arteriography is specially useful before surgical removal of the hepatoma because it shows the surgeon the exact accommodation blood vessels of your liver.

A liver biopsy can certainly confirm the diagnosis. The risk of bleeding or other injury after a liver biopsy generally are low.

    Prognosis and treatment

Usually the prognosis if you have hepatoma weak, because the cancerous growth is detected too late. Sometimes the individual with a small tumor recovers following the tumor has been removed surgically.

    SOME OTHER primary liver cancer

    • Cholangiocarcinoma is usually a cancer that arises from the lining of the bile ducts within the liver or bile ducts. Inside the Orient, infestation with parasites termed liver worms, may be partly liable for this cancer. People with long-term ulcerative colitis in addition to sclerosing cholangitis occasionally develop cholangiocarcinoma.

    • Hepatoblastoma is among the more common cancers in kids. Sometimes occurs in older children and will produce hormones called gonadotropins, which result in early (precocious) puberty. Hepatoblastoma is usually detected with the general deterioration of health and large clusters (formation) within the upper right abdomen.

    • Angiosarcoma is usually a rare cancer that occurs within the blood vessels of the hard working liver. Angiosarcoma may result from exposure to vinyl chloride at work.

    Diagnosis and Treatment

Cholangiocarcinoma, hepatoblastoma, and angiosarcoma can be diagnosed only by liver biopsy having a needle takes a sample involving liver tissue for examination under a microscope.

Usually the treatment of low-value and a lot people die within a few months of the discovery of your tumor. However, if the most cancers is detected relatively early, the tumor can be surgically removed with the expectation of long-term survival.

    Metastatic hard working liver cancer

Metastatic liver cancer is cancer which has spread to the liver from other places chemistry.

Metastatic liver cancer most often derives from the lung, breast, colon, pancreas in addition to stomach. The liver can be caught and leukemia and other cancers of blood cells, for example lymphoma. Sometimes the discovery of metastatic hard working liver tumors first indication that you have cancer.

    Symptoms

Often the first symptoms include fat loss and poor appetite. Typically your liver is increased, and tough, and may be sensitive to the touch. There may be fever. From time to time the enlarged spleen, especially in the event the cancer originated from the pancreas. The abdomen can be expanded a result of the presence of free liquid, a disease called ascites.

In the commencing, there is no jaundice or materials until the cancer clogged bile ducts. With regard to weeks before his death, jaundice gets stronger. A person can also grow to be confused and drowsy with accumulation of toxins within the brain, a condition called hepatic encephalopathy.

    Examination

In the later stages of the disease, a doctor usually can certainly diagnose metastatic liver cancer pretty easily, but the diagnosis is more difficult in the early stages. The actual cancer may show US, CT in addition to MRI, but this time the image can't always detect small tumors or maybe distinguish a tumor from cirrhosis and other abnormalities.

The tumors often trigger poor liver function, which can be detected by blood tests.

Any liver biopsy confirmed the medical diagnosis in 75% of cases. A biopsy can be carried out under the control of ultrasound also to the chance of getting your cancerous tissue was greater. Another way of taking a biopsy sample will be laparoscopy (fiberoptic tube for observation that's introduced through the abdominal wall).

Leukemia is generally diagnosed by results of examination of your blood and bone marrow. Generally, a liver biopsy is not essential.

    Treatment

Depending on the kind (type) of cancer, anti-cancer drugs may temporarily shrink tumors in addition to prolong life, but they tend not to cure the cancer. Anti-cancer drugs can be injected into the hepatic artery, which then dispatches a high concentration of drug on to the cancer cells in your liver. This technique will likely shrink tumors and produce fewer unwanted effects, but not proven to prolong life. Radiation therapy liver can reduce severe pain, but gives little improvement.

If the hard working liver found one tumor, the surgeon may eliminate it, especially if it came about from intestinal cancer. However, all experts do not consider such a surgical procedure worth taking.

“For most people with extensive cancer, all a doctor can do is relieve the symptoms.” Traditional medicine doesn't give much hope though we believe cannabis oil can cure liver cancer and relieve cancer pain and if not caught in time can give dignity and peace to the person dying of cancer. Most often they died of the damage done by allopathic cancer doctors, chemotherapy and radiation side effects and its destruction of the patients immune system. Most often they don't die of the cancer itself. Everyone should have cannabis oil in their medicine chest. God bless cannabis sativa and indica, thc and cbd oil.

Muscadine Grape Seed Supplement Benefits and Side Effects

    10Shares55

Muscadine grape seed extract supplements touted for its antioxidant benefits and to provide a boost to the immune system. The properties of this extract is said to improve cardiovascular health, slow down aging, improving health of the eye, and protect against cancer. There are only three grape varieties used in making grape seed extract: Vitis vinifera, labrusca, and muscadine grapes. These are all red wine grapes and a byproduct of the wine making industry.

Red grapes have the highest levels of polyphenols which, to some extent, the color explains. This is also one of the compounds which gives grape seed extract its beneficial properties. Muscadine grapes (Vitis rotundifolia) are rarer than the other two races, because they are found only in the southeastern US There are more than 300 muscadine cultivars or varieties grown in the US .. In the US known for their thick skin, unlike other grapes, most muscadines are peeled before eating.

    Muscadine Seed Extract
The muscadine grape has a long history in America, of not only used to prevent disease, but also in the auxiliary recovery. The grape has an extra chromosome makes it particularly resistant to extreme climate and disease. It is believed that this mechanism is passed on to those that the grape, and then increases the antioxidant properties.

Although many studies are still inconclusive about the effects of muscadine grape seed extract, others have considerable proven. One study found resting positive vascular effects in the brachial artery diameter. However, it did not find any other important advantages with respect to anti-oxidant effects, inflammation or lipid peroxidation. However, it is possible that the study may be limited due to the fact that the participants were treated only with grape seed extract 4 weeks. As a consumer, especially in America, you can even consume grape seed extract without knowing it. The supplement, they are rich in fiber, an ingredient in some nutritional meal replacement bars.

    The Muscadine Grape in Medicine
The muscadine it is thought that many of the properties that may prove to be beneficial to include modern medicine. It is necessary to distinguish between the effects of the whole grape, wine, juice, seed (extract) and the skin. There have been comparative studies measuring the effectiveness of prostate cancer between resveratrol and muscadine. These indicate that the compounds, in their own way, inhibit cancer cell growth. However, the compounds which differ in the skin of the muscadine and the proportions of that of the extract or seed.

Another study was the efficacy in the inhibition of cancer cells both the seed and the skin of the muscadine. The findings were significant. However, a problem with this study is that currently there is no indication it is peer-reviewed or published in a recognized scientific or medical journal. The findings are both interesting and promising, and it may be, the catalyst at the start of further financing and research. However, researchers believe that there is need for further research regarding muscadine grape benefits.

What is Muscadine Grape Seed Extract Good For?
The advantages of the muscadine grapes are similar to those of other grape seed extracts. However, by the thickness of the skins, the concentration of compounds is believed higher. This is the reason why promote some manufacturers of grape seed extract of the fact that they make use of muscadine grapes as a sign of complement a high quality.

Especially the flavonoids as antioxidants are thought significantly more powerful in this extract than those of other races. Flavonoids are sometimes referred to as polyphenols and the skin of the muscadine is in this particular substance. As a result, the antioxidant effects are better than that of vitamin C or vitamin E. Therefore, muscadine extract is said to protect against oxidative and free radical damage. Scientists now believe that free radical damage is the basis of common, yet serious, disease. These include:

    Heart disease
    Cancer
    Diabetes
    Macular degeneration
Neurological degenerative diseases: Parkinson's disease ie
    Imbecility
    Arthritis
    ... And many others
Should you buy Muscadine Grape Seed Extract?
Products containing antioxidants and limiting the damage caused by free radicals, are becoming increasingly important as we understand more about how the aging process works and how we can slow it down. With a supplement such as Muscadine Grape known to be rich in antioxidants, there is no wonder that more and more attention.
In general, consumers take this supplement as a preventative measure. They try to minimize the damage caused by environmental factors and improve overall health for longer periods. In some instances, the nutrient is also taken for cosmetic reasons in order to reduce free radical damage to the skin and reduce the signs of aging.

This product is not as widely available as other grape seed extracts. However, it is more expensive. Expect to pay around $ 0.20 per dose for Muscadine Grape Seed Extract. Nature's Pearl specializing in muscadine products, but the cost is higher and can reach $ 1 per day. Make sure to look at the label before you buy a supplement to determine the amount of grape seed extract provided per serving. High quality products should be at least 80% procyandin satisfied with about 200 mg of grape seed extract per capsule.
